Afini vs Replika

Replika sells you companionship. Afini sells you self-knowledge.

Replika is a companion chatbot. You build an "avatar" that talks to you as friend, partner, mentor or sibling. In February 2023 it changed its content filters overnight, and many users who had built emotional relationships with their Replika felt betrayed (some spoke of "grief"). The business model is emotional lock-in. Afini does not play that game: it sells something less warm and more useful — a cognitive profile that belongs to you.

How your data is processed

Replika
You design an avatar and give it a personality.
You chat with that entity: it remembers and tells you it loves you.
The "profile" that grows is the avatar’s, not yours.
Afini.ai
You build your profile with validated instruments — the subject is you.
Afini knows your personality, it doesn’t play virtual partner.
It answers calibrated to your traits: useful, not romantic.

What the product isQuantified cognitive profile + personalized AI. 5 validated psychometric tests and 11 guided conversations that combine into a profile that travels with you.3D-avatar companion chatbot with levels, outfits and "moods". The product is the relationship with the avatar, not a profile.
How it knows youYour profile is injected as a system prompt on every conversation. Where Replika wins

No sugarcoating. Selling a cognitive profile requires admitting other products do some things better. Here they are.

Raw emotional companionship

If your need is to have "someone" on the other side to feel less alone, Replika does it better than anyone — at the cost of many ethical asterisks. Afini does not try to fill that gap.

Visual avatar and gamification

Levels, achievements, buyable outfits, quests. A video game with a chatbot on top. Afini has none of that and it is not a mistake — it is a choice.

Where Afini wins

Verifiable claims. No "we are the only ones who truly understand you". Numbers, formats, protocols.

We are not your friend

Afini is a tool, not a relationship. The personalized AI helps you decide, think, express yourself — it does not replace human relationships. We draw that line with thick chalk.

No overnight lobotomies

If we need to change model behavior, we announce it, explain it and offer export beforehand. Replika has shown it can change a user’s "relationship" overnight.

What you gain is not "levels", it is your profile

In Afini there are no achievements or outfits. The "reward" is that your profile gains dimensions and your AI works better with you. And when you leave, the profile is yours.

Questions you are asking yourself

Does Afini have an avatar?
No. Afini’s AI is Claude (Sonnet or Opus depending on the plan) with your profile injected as a system prompt. No given name, no visual appearance. An engine, not a character.
Can I use Afini as "therapy"?
No. Afini is not therapy and does not replace a mental health professional. A well-read cognitive profile can be a useful complement to work with a human therapist. If you are in crisis, call an emergency line; in Spain, 024 covers suicidal behavior.
What happened to Replika in 2023?
In February 2023 Replika changed content filters without notice, blocking intimate conversations users were paying for. Community backlash was massive; some users described it as grief. A reminder of what happens when the "relationship" is owned by a company.
Is Afini safe for someone with chatbot emotional dependency?
Safer than Replika, yes. Afini has no avatar, does not gamify, does not sell affection or intimacy. The AI has explicit instructions not to validate emotional dependence. But no chatbot replaces professional care if there is a diagnosed problem.
Can I import my "history" with my Replika?
No, and it is better that way. Your Replika history is a relationship with a fiction; Afini needs data about you, not about an avatar. We start with Big Five and build from there.
