Afini vs Pi

Pi is friendly. Afini knows you.

Pi was born as a "personal AI" with emphasis on empathic conversation. It got popular; in fact, too much — Inflection AI, the company behind it, was effectively "acqui-hired" by Microsoft in March 2024. The product lives on, with less focus. Afini goes to the bone: we do not sell friendliness, we sell a quantified profile. Friendly AI is everywhere; AI that actually knows you, less so.

Where Pi wins

No sugarcoating. Selling a cognitive profile requires admitting other products do some things better. Here they are.

Conversational warmth

Pi sounds like a friend. If all you want is to vent to someone patient, Pi does that job better than Afini — which comes with a profile and uncomfortable questions.

Zero entry barrier

You open Pi and talk. Afini asks you to complete tests and conversations before handing you a profile. More initial friction, yes; also more substance later.

Where Afini wins

Verifiable claims. No "we are the only ones who truly understand you". Numbers, formats, protocols.

Visible, editable profile

You see your profile as data: 30 Big Five facets, 2 attachment dimensions, 4 humor styles, 10 values, 5 time orientations. You can review, recalibrate and export it. Pi does not show what it "knows" about you.

Operating, focused company

Afini is Bilbao AI S.L., with a roadmap and people working on the product full-time. Pi is what remains of Inflection after losing its founders and core team to Microsoft.

Engine you choose, indirectly

Your profile is portable. If Afini disappears tomorrow, you take the JSON and drop it into any LLM. Pi ties you to Inflection’s evolution (or extinction).

Questions you are asking yourself

Does Pi still exist?
Yes, as of April 2026, though its future is hazy. Microsoft hired the core team in 2024 and Suleyman now runs Microsoft AI. The product is still operational but development has slowed. Keep that in mind before investing your time (and your intimacy) in the platform.
Can Afini be as warm as Pi?
If your profile shows anxious attachment, high Agreeableness and low conflict tolerance, Afini will adjust tone to that warmth. If you are more skeptical and cynical, the AI will be drier. Tone is not the product; it is a consequence of your profile.
Should I worry about the Microsoft deal?
Depends on how much you care about product continuity and data jurisdiction. The deal is not a clean acquisition: tech licensing and staff hiring. That usually ends up being a de facto acquisition with residual maintenance. Not a great signal for an "intimate" tool.
Will Afini last?
We cannot guarantee survival (no one can). What we do give: the portable JSON. If Afini disappears, your profile survives because it lives on your machine and works in any LLM. The difference between building on Facebook and building on HTML.
And if what I want is an AI that understands me emotionally?
Pi will answer with generic warmth. Afini, with warmth calibrated by your profile — including attachment anxiety, Neuroticism, humor style and values. "Understand emotionally" is not the same as "sound kind": the first takes data about you, the second a system prompt.

Your profile in portable format. In any AI.
