Speaking C1 English does not mean writing C1 English. Almost everyone reads better than they write, and writes better than they speak. That's why this layer asks for three levels separately, with the standard CEFR scale (A1 to C2 plus native). The AI uses these levels to decide when to drop a word in another language without translating it, when to suggest material in the original, when to assume you understand a Borges sentence in Spanish.
